Haven't watched it for a while but find the '65 ECWC Final on youtube. Watch all the match and I think you will get an idea of what a decent player he was.

Re: John Sissons
The mention of Malcolm Musgrove below jogged my memory of playing against him in Torquay after he retired from playing professionally.

I was about 21, I guess he was mid 40's. Still good though (him not me). We were both left wingers but he played left back that day and was marking me as I played out of position on the right. No goals or assists that day!

Re: John Sissons
He was great as a youngster, replaced the crowds favourite Malcolm Musgrove who had moved on. So had his work cut out but did well. Became the youngest player to score in a FA Cup Final. Not the youngest player though, Howard Kendall of Preston just pipped him to that in 1964 Final in which they both played. As others have said excellent left foot, quick as a youngster but slowed up as he matured.

In the late 60s he lived in West Ham owned clubhouse a couple of doors away from where I lived in Hornchurch. Never saw much of him, not flash and kept himself to himself. Unlike others of his era, Moore, Hurst etc who you would see in and around the local watering holes.

Re: John Sissons
My usual standing position in those days was in the West Stand close to the pitch - so close to Sisson's left wing position one half, and to Billy Bonds or John McDowell at right back n the other half. Siss had good close control and a powerful left foot. Crossing ability was very important in that team, with the Hurst / Peters combination so good in the air. The near-post cross was a West Ham signature tactic in those days, and he could drive the ball low and hard so all it needed was a deflection past the keeper. Rather too one-footed to be versatile, which combined with only average pace undoubtedly stopped his progress.

Re: John Sissons
I saw him play countless times over a few seasons and was disappointed when his formed dipped and he was transferred to Sheff Wed

I actually saw him play once for Sheff Wed once too, against Cardiff City, when I was at university at Cardiff

He played for us when he was very young and a bit of a pin-up boy who was expected to become a massive star but sadly, it didn't happen

He was a fast left winger who played opposite a young Harry Redknapp on the right wing

What went wrong it's hard to say. Whether it was injury initially, whether he lost his appetite for the game I don't know but he seemed to lose his pace and gain a bit of weight

I was sorry when he left but when I saw him in that one game playing for Sheff Wed he was really disappointing which is probably why he was sold by us

Re: John Sissons
Great player one of my favourites but there was talk about him having an affair with another high ranking player at the club and got moved on.

Re: John Sissons
He is now out in South Africa

John at the tender age of 18 was truly one of the outstanding talents of his generation. However, he really should have gone on and become an England International but he never did reach his full potential. Ron Greenwood said of John that he worked hard, had a wonderful left foot and the sort of pace that put him in the same class of George Best. How and why it all went wrong, perhaps we will never know? He was certainly a very good player but never reached the lofty heights Greenwood or the fans expected. With those boyish looks, he is still fondly remembered though by many fans who watched him in the sixties.

South Africa I think?

Yes great player that fitted in extremely well into Ron Greenwood's philosophy

Re: John Sissons
He was one of those young players thought of as a certainty to play for England, but never quite got there. I really liked him. Got a feeling he owned a boutique in Emerson Park, and isn't he in America these days?

He was terrific on his day, but I think he was a bit lightweight. Moved to Sheffield Wednesday later.
